Toye Watson

Toye Watson is a Charlotte native who has dedicated her career to transforming teaching, learning, and capacity building for historically underserved communities. As an educator, community organizer, and consultant, she specializes in working with teachers, schools, and nonprofits to find innovative and sustainable solutions.

Watson brings a wealth of experience to her work, having served as an educator, program director, community organizer, and grant writer. She holds an undergraduate degree in Africana Studies and English, and a Master’s degree in Urban Education from UNC Charlotte.

Watson is a recipient of the 2017 MeckEd Teacher of Excellence Award and has created several successful early childhood development initiatives aimed at bridging gaps in education. Her work has been recognized in publications such as University City Partners and Central Piedmont Community College.

As a recently accepted Charlotte Equity Impact Fellow, Watson is committed to eliminating inequitable practices and cultivating the unique gifts, talents, and interests of all individuals. Her goal is to create a more just and equitable society where success and failure are not predetermined by social factors such as identity, race, or economic status.
